DIY Project – Giving an Old Bar Stool A New Lease of Life

I bought a white Ikea stool some time back, and learned it the hard way how challenging it is to maintain white furniture. Not sure how and when, but one day, I noticed that the seat of the bar stool was slightly stained. No amount of cleaning would remove it.  As a result, it was rendered not guest worthy and something needed to be done to it.  (Note – sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the stained stool). Instead of throwing it away, I figured that it would be a perfect opportunity to unleash the artistic side of me! This was...

Design Inspiration – Minimalist Industrial Look

Recently spotted – Minimalist Industrial Look building (at Belum Royal Resort, Perak).  This building blended in so well into the leafy surrounding. Loving the concrete and red brick walled building and the various species of carefully planted plants: Not your typical grills. There is always the option of playing with the design and colours of the glass...

Lunar New Year Decorations at Shopping Mall

We would like to thank Ms Edelweiss, for the article below. Touring some major shopping malls, one gets to see beautiful cherry / plum blossoms “blooming”. One of the shopping...

Old-Age Proofing the House

We would like to thank Ms Mel Chin, for the article below.   My 87-year old mother-in-law broke her coccyx, the tailbone, a year ago but has gained enough mobility to be able to walk. However, she needs a wheelchair to get around as she is unable to walk for long without pain. Luckily, she is still able to move slowly around the house with the help of a quad cane, a walking stick with a base with four legs. When she came to live with us, we knew we had to old-age proof our apartment so that she could be as independent as possible. Below...

Unique Espresso Bar in London

It was a cold and wet morning in London and I was suffering from a pounding headache.  I knew the only solution was a good cup of coffee. Armed with ‘London’s top 5 best independent coffee shop” list by londonliving, I set out to find a cure for my headache.  Lucky for me, one of the recommended coffee shops was located a mere 3 minutes from my hotel. What a quirky find it turned out to be.  Located downstairs of 27a Foley Street (on the corner of Foley Street and Great Titchfield Street), Attendant is situated in what used to be a...

Simple and Elegant Floral Arrangement

I am sure many of you noticed that gone are the days of formal and rigid floral arrangements, replaced by the chic and fuss-free look. Most of these floral arrangements use only 1 or 2 types of flowers, arranged in simple and natural style, giving them a refreshing and carefree feel. Here are some example of such floral arrangement styles, spotted in a  Bangkok hotel lobby.   All you need are simple glass / crystal / pewter vases of various shapes and sizes and suitable flowers.  Just be sure to buy a generous amount of flowers, as you...
