DIY Project – Giving an Old Bar Stool A New Lease of Life

DIY Project – Giving an Old Bar Stool A New Lease of Life

I bought a white Ikea stool some time back, and learned it the hard way how challenging it is to maintain white furniture. Not sure how and when, but one day, I noticed that the seat of the bar stool was slightly stained. No amount of cleaning would remove it.  As a result, it was rendered not guest worthy and something needed to be done to it.  (Note – sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the stained stool). Instead of throwing it away, I figured that it would be a perfect opportunity to unleash the artistic side of me! This was...

Retailer Highlight – Homeless, Hong Kong

Most people associate Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay with shopping, dining and nightlife.  From upmarket fashions and luxury goods to street markets, places like Time Square, Lee Gardens, Sogo, Hysan Place and Jardine’s Crescents are always packed with shoppers.   However, my favourite store there is a 3-storey lifestyle store called Homeless, which sells a wide array of rather unorthodox (think playful + colourful) products, including :- designer furnitures and fittings, lighting, kitchen tools, serve-ware, tableware,...

Power Socket Housekeeping Project

Power Socket Housekeeping Project

I was facing a problem with the power sockets at my dry kitchen area, or rather, the lack of power sockets at my dry kitchen. Our original configuration was as per below : 2 units of power sockets, 2 wall-cabinet light switches and 2 switches for the hood and oven respectively. However, as you can see, it made the area looked rather cluttered and the unevenness in the sockets positions was quite an eyesore. To make matters worse, the wall sockets would come off if we ever try to pull the plug a little too hard. We have tried many methods to...

Landscapes and Gardens – A Japanese Moss Garden

Summer in Japan is rainy season, and a chance discovery while attempting to avoid the drizzle, led me to a breathtaking and mysterious garden landscape at the Hakone Museum of Art.  Strolling through the museums’s moss garden in the mid morning cool air and taking in the lush greenery was a surreal experience. There are 130 varieties of moss in the garden, shrouded by 200 maple trees, all in a lush green shade.  So used to the grass covered lawns in my own tropical home, I marvelled at the beauty of the moss covered garden...

Design Inspiration – Minimalist Industrial Look

Recently spotted – Minimalist Industrial Look building (at Belum Royal Resort, Perak).  This building blended in so well into the leafy surrounding. Loving the concrete and red brick walled building and the various species of carefully planted plants: Not your typical grills. There is always the option of playing with the design and colours of the glass...

Lunar New Year Decorations at Shopping Mall

We would like to thank Ms Edelweiss, for the article below. Malaysia, a multiracial country that celebrates many major festivals in which one of them is the Chinese New Year (CNY).  This year, CNY ushers in the year of the horse.  Malaysia is one of the countries that will go all the way to promote such events by having beautiful decorations at shopping malls to simulate the environment like in China. Touring some major shopping malls, one gets to see beautiful cherry / plum blossoms “blooming”. One of the shopping...
